Everyone, from the ne’er do wells to the ultra-successful, has certain habits. Of course, there is a clear difference in what types of habits they have, but successful people tend to follow many of the same habits. Success isn’t a mystery, and it doesn’t need to elude you.
- An End Has A Start
How can you achieve anything if you don’t know what it is that you are chasing? Successful people always have their end in mind, they know what it is they are striving for. Clearly define that goal you’re chasing and if it’s a big one make sure you break it down into achievable chunks to ensure you remain motivated. It is far easier to get started when you know what your end goal is. - Follow A Schedule
You might feel as though there are never enough hours in the day, but successful people are effective at managing their time. Creating a working schedule will help you with your time management skills and keep you on track throughout your day. Without this structure, you are more likely to fall prey to distractions and procrastination. Don’t forget to factor in breaks and consider batch checking your emails/social media twice a day, rather than constantly disrupting your focus. - Persistence
Do you know how many times Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling had her series rejected?
Dozens. Dr. Seuss was rejected by 27 publishers. Walt Disney went bankrupt and lost multiple businesses before creating Disney. It wasn’t until he created his 5,127 th prototype that James Dyson finally produced a marketing vacuum cleaner than revolutionized the appliance. Katy Perry was dropped from three different record labels before she finally found commercial success. The point is that every one of these people (and many more like them) pushed beyond their failures and continued to chase their goals and ultimately succeeded. You will inevitably experience setbacks, missteps, and outright failures. It is all about how you react to those challenges rather than the challenges themselves. Learn from it and move on. - Positivity
Successful people believe that they can achieve their goals. It is this level of positivity that helps carry them through the challenges, it allows them to ignore the naysayers and rise above it. When you can spot the silver lining in every gray cloud you are in a far better position to get through any difficult situation and come out the other side unscathed. Positive people tend to be happier, and these are the type of people who are happy and successful. - The Ability To Say No
Do not underestimate how important it is to say no. Think about it like this… whenever you respond with a yes you are essentially saying no to something else. The something else that is displaced by this new thing might be really important. Successful people understand that if it doesn’t add value, it’s a waste of time. That might just mean that you have to say no to yourself, too, be strong enough to know when a no is necessary.
Successful people have many more habits than these five in common, but these are an excellent place for anyone to start their journey. If you want to attain a level of success that you never thought possible you might need to make some sacrifices, but those are short-term losses for long-term gains. Do you know what else the most successful people have in common? They aren’t tied down to their office constantly, they know their productive sweet spot, and they aren’t afraid to embrace it.
